To
Comfort means:
- to soothe
- to reassure
- to bring cheer
In other words, Paul says that
we believers should look for ways to console one another with
the truth of scripture.
In 1 Thessalonians Paul is speaking of
Jesus Second Coming.
He is telling the believers to remind and
comfort each other with the truth that Jesus will return again
for His own, therefore, they should not lose hope and become
discouraged with their present circumstances.
We should be
doing the same. We should be reminding one another daily of the
hope of Jesus return and the joy of an eternal life with
Him.
We should soothe one another with the knowledge of the
scripture's truth.
We should reassure one another that our
present circumstances are just temporary
and that someday soon
Jesus will return for us to take us to glory !
We should bring
cheer to one another with a word, card or phone call,
consoling
one another in times of trial or strengthening one another in
times of need.
ONE-ANOTHERING IN ACTION:Look
around you today. Who do you see that needs some
comfort?
Perhaps all they need is a word of cheer from you, or
an understanding hug.
Maybe some one needs to be reminded that
Jesus is coming again and that their present circumstances will
soon fade away in the light of His glory.
Maybe you could send
out a note or card via email or regular mail to someone who might
need some reassuring words from the scriptures.
Pray and ask
the Lord who He wants to comfort today and then ask Him how you
can be used of Him to do that.
Therefore comfort each
other... 1 Thessalonians 5:11 [NKJV]
