HOPE is Grace.
As you light your first candle of Advent take time to ponder this verse:
Therefore, prepare your minds for action, keep a clear head, and set your hope completely on the grace to be given you when Jesus, the Messiah, is revealed. 1 Peter 1:13.
To me, this verse is telling me how I should think and act daily, it is giving me an example of how I should live the Christian life. My mind should be clear, alert, ready for action, for the enemy is always prowling around trying to catch me off guard. As Peter says in 1 Peter 5:8, “Be clear-minded and alert. Your opponent, the Devil, is prowling around like a roaring lion, looking for someone to devour.”Â
Also, Colossians 3:2 says: “Set your mind on things above, not on things on the earth.”  If my mind is thinking on heavenly things, I will not be distracted by earthly desires, and I will be better able to set my hope on the grace that I will be receiving when Jesus returns.
As the Advent candle burns bright and chases the darkness away, determine to set your hope on the grace Jesus will bring to you when He returns.
