AUGUST 13–GREET ONE ANOTHER

Posted on August 13, 2023September 1, 2023 by SGLY Devotionals

A “One Anothering” Scripture and Thought
Greet one another with a kiss of love. Peace to you all who are in Christ Jesus. Amen.  1 Peter 5:14

Greet means:

  • to welcome
  • to meet or receive
  • to address with a bow or kiss, a word or phrase

We believers should always greet one another warmly.
In Peter’s day and culture, it was “with a kiss of love” or “holy kiss”.
Today, in our culture, it could be whatever you might feel is an appropriate greeting of Christian love.
The Greek meaning is agape love: affection, good will, love, benevolence, brotherly love. It is not a sexual kiss but a genuine greeting of agape love towards a brother or sister in Christ.

It could be a kiss on the cheek, a warm handshake, a hug, a big smile or a cheerful “Hi”.

Perhaps just a touch on the shoulder or arm would let someone know they are noticed and greeted; this builds unity in the church.

ONE-ANOTHERING IN ACTION:

Today make it a point to greet a brother or sister in Christian love.

Choose whatever greeting you are comfortable with and then be sure to use it often, so that everyone feels they are important, noticed, and welcome in the church body.

Greet one another with a holy kiss. The churches of Christ greet you. Romans 16:16
