And if God chose them by grace, then it is not for the things they have done. If they could be made God’s people by what they did, then God’s gift of grace would not really be a gift.

Message:
Paul is speaking to the Jews in Rome about Salvation, how it is received by grace alone, not by any works.
Some people even today find this hard to believe.
There are many people yet today that believe they need to do good works to earn salvation, but as we have been seeing in our daily verses it is only by God’s grace that we are saved, not by works.
For it is by grace [God’s remarkable compassion and favor drawing you to Christ] that you have been saved [actually delivered from judgment and given eternal life] through faith. And this [salvation] is not of yourselves [not through your own effort], but it is the [undeserved, gracious] gift of God; Ephesians 2:8 AMP
