A “One Anothering” Scripture and Thought
Therefore comfort one another with these words. 1 Thessalonians 4:18
To Comfort means:
- to soothe
- to reassure
- to bring cheer
In other words, Paul says that we believers should look for ways to console one another with the truth of scripture. In today’s verse, Paul is speaking of Jesus’ Second Coming. He is telling the believers to remind and comfort each other with the truth that Jesus will return again for His own, therefore, they should not lose hope and become discouraged with their present circumstances.
We should be doing the same. In these days we are now living in, we should be reminding one another daily of the hope of Jesus return and the joy of an eternal life with Him.
We should be soothing one another with the knowledge of the scripture’s truth.
We should be reassuring one another that our present circumstances are just temporary and that someday soon Jesus will return for us to take us to glory!
We should be bringing cheer to one another with a word, card or phone call, consoling one another in times of trial or strengthening one another in times of need.
ONE-ANOTHERING IN ACTION:
Look around you today. Who do you see that needs some comfort?
- Perhaps all they need is a word of cheer from you, or an understanding hug.
- Maybe someone needs to be reminded that Jesus is coming again and that their present circumstances will soon fade away in the light of His glory.
- Maybe you could send out a note or card via email or regular mail to someone who might need some reassuring words from the scriptures.
- Maybe send a text or make a phone call to someone you know that needs an encouraging, uplifting word.
- Pray and ask the Lord who He wants to comfort today and then ask Him how you can be used of Him to do that.
Therefore comfort each other… 1 Thessalonians 5:11
