A “One Anothering” Scripture and Thought
Therefore comfort each other and edify one another, just as you also are doing. 1 Thessalonians 5:11
Edify means:
- to instruct
- to uplift
- to encourage
When I hear the word “Edify” I think of “building up”. We believers should be instructing one another spiritually in a way that will build up our faith.
We should be spiritually uplifting each other to greater heights in the Lord.
We should be encouraging one another to grow spiritually so we can all be fruitful for the Lord.
We should be building one another up and strengthening one another intellectually and spiritually as we interact with one another daily.
ONE-ANOTHERING IN ACTION:
As the Lord gives you opportunity, edify your brothers and sisters in the Lord when they are feeling down by sharing things you have learned from the scriptures or by building up their faith with testimonies of how you have seen God at work in your life.
Besides times at church services, cards, letters, notes, texts, phone calls, emails, or visits are all good ways to connect and edify one another.
As you and others practice one anothering your church body will grow stronger and be more united in love, and if you know other believers outside of your church body, practicing edification among them will also strengthen your relationships and help you and them to grow and be built up in the faith.
Therefore let us pursue the things which make for peace and the things by which one may edify another. Romans 14:19
