Walk Humbly.
He has shown you, O man, what is good; And what does the Lord require of you
But to do justly, To love mercy, And to walk humbly with your God? Micah 6:8.
How does one “walk humbly” with God? I would say that it means having a close relationship with God daily by keeping our focus on Him and not on ourselves.
I think walking with God daily means realizing that in Him I live, move and have my being as it says in Acts 17:28, and that without Him I can do nothing as it says in John 15:5.
We believers should always seek to do what is good, and do what He requires of us, as He has shown us in the scriptures. He tells us to be just (honest, fair, and to do right) and to love mercy, (forgive others, be compassionate), therefore we should be exhibiting those things in our life daily.
We should always be grateful that we belong to Him, and thankful for His word, which tells us how to live a life that is pleasing to Him. We should be seeking His will, not ours.
Jesus was the perfect example of how to walk humbly. He served others, submitted to God’s will, and sacrificed Himself on the cross for all humanity.
As Philippians 2: 3 thru 7 says:
- Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit.
- Rather, in humility value others above yourselves, not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of the others.
- In your relationships with one another, have the same mindset as Christ Jesus: Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be used to his own advantage; rather, he made himself nothing by taking the very nature of a servant.
I think if we model ourselves after Jesus and walk as He walked; we will be walking humbly.
Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will lift you up in honor. James 4:10.
