May your unfailing love be my comfort, according to your promise to your servant. Psalm 119:76
For, I have great sorrow and continual grief in my heart. Romans 9:2
There is much grief and sorrow when a loved one is lost, whether they are young or old, for it hurts those who are left behind to face life without them. If those who passed are believers, it is comforting to know they are gone to be with the Lord, yet their physical absence leaves a void that is hard to accept and often it takes a long time to heal. If those who are left behind are believers, it greatly helps that they have their faith and beliefs to rely on and God’s promises to strengthen them, yet they still need prayers for comfort and support from their brothers and sisters in Christ to uplift and encourage them.
Dear God,
I pray that Your unfailing love be a comfort to those who are now facing the loss of a loved one.
I pray that their faith will not fail and that they will cling to Your promises daily.
I pray that they will feel Your presence near to them day and night for You have promised You will never leave, nor forsake, those who trust in You.
I pray that Your Holy Spirit who is our Comforter and Helper will bring them peace and healing.
I also pray for those who are not believers, those who don’t have any beliefs or promises to lean on during this time, for they too need prayer during this difficult time. I pray, God, that You will reach down and open their eyes and hearts to receive the truth of the gospel that they might see the brevity of life and be saved before it is too late. I pray that You will send Your Holy Spirit will hover over them and draw them to those who will share the gospel with them so that they might receive Christ, for You are a merciful God and are not willing that anyone should perish. I pray that this difficult, sorrow filled time will be a time that You, God, can use to enter their lives and bring them to peace and salvation in Christ. |
In Jesus name. Amen.
